Empowerment Through Art: Girls Action's Girls Club program

Girls taking their space! Girls Club is Girls Action Foundation's after school violence prevention and empowerment program for 11 to 13 year old girls in the Montreal area. The program applies a popular education approach that, for each issue or topic, starts from girls' lived experiences. Girls share their knowledge, build their skills, develop critical thinking and then move into action.

In this report, I visited a Girls Club in Verdun where they were unveiling a mural the girls had been working on for weeks.

Girls are Strong!

Wow, this is incredible. It's amazing how often girls are underestimated and dismissed in our society, and this proves all gendered notions about them wrong. Girls do have voices, and they are strong!

Absolutely!

Thanks for commenting! I absolutely agree. Often, girls are perceived as passive and naive, but the truth is, I learned so much from the girls at Girls Club! They were much stronger, more aware of gender disparity and of the influence of media than I expected.
