Girls Action believes in grounding its work in local realities. We offer a number of Montreal-based programs designed to:
GIRLS CLUB
Girls Clubs are extra-curricular programs for girls who are between 10 and 17 years old delivered in specific Montreal schools. Girls are encouraged to think critically, develop their self-esteem, accept differences and develop healthy relationships.
MEDIA ARTS WORKSHOPS
Girls Action works with community groups, organizations and local schools to give girls and young women the tools to explore video, photography, radio and ‘zine making for personal growth and social change.
WORKSHOP SERIES
Girls Action offers a series of workshops delivered through schools and community organizations for girls and young women to address the issues that impact them. The workshops are designed and tailored to encourage girls to explore issues such as: self-esteem, violence prevention, healthy relationships, friendships, and more.
TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF
Girls Action offers training and support to teachers and other school professionals in their work with girls and young women to encourage girls’ leadership and violence prevention. We offer tools and resources for activities, group leadership techniques, and support in designing and sustaining all-girl spaces.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Girls Action also works on special projects that reflect the needs and interests of specific communities. We are currently running three special local projects: Improving Futures is a media arts project offered in English-speaking neighbourhoods in Montreal, Filles et Egalité is geared to girls from ethnocultural communities, Travaillons Ensemble focuses on the prevention of sexual exploitation of girls and young women. All three projects are organized in partnership with community groups and organizations.
