JOB POSTING: Communications Intern (Summer paid internship)

GIRLS ACTION FOUNDATION is currently seeking to hire an energetic and talented individual to join their team for a paid summer internship. Under the direction of the Operations Manager, this individual will be responsible for assisting the Communications Officer in the implementation of communications specific tasks and activities.

Founded in 1995, Girls Action Foundation is a national charitable organization that leads and seeds girls’ programs across Canada. We build girls’ and young women’s skills and confidence and inspire action to change the world. Through our innovative programs, research, and support to a network of over 300 partnering organizations and projects, Girls Action reaches over 60,000 girls and young women. We reach remote, marginalized and urban communities, including those in the North.


To apply, you must be

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • Registered as a full-time student during the last school year; 
  • Intending to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP, vocational or technical program;
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

Roles and responsibilities

Communications and National Programs Support:

  • Support with social media promotion.
  • Support content production through translating and proofreading, as required.
  • Support online outreach for Girls Action programs and projects through mass emails, web pages.
  • Enter and organize information on our database.
  • Support research related to the Girls Action’s membership and the girls’ empowerment movement in Canada.
  • Support outreach to, and follow-up with, members.
  • Support the Programs team in the planning and implementation of programs for girls and young women and the organisation of special events for our network.
  • Support with other tasks, when needed.

Desired skills and qualities

  • Relevant training (Communications, Social Sciences, Women’s Studies or other relevant field);
  • Knowledge of questions pertaining to youth, feminist, and/or community organizations is an asset;
  • Strong written and verbal skills in both French and English (fluent in one language, excellent skills in the other);
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Works well under pressure, punctual;
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with excellent follow-through;
  • Ability and experience of working autonomously and as a part of a team;
  • Highly motivated, creative and energetic;
  • Tech and internet savvy;
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, websites (content management systems), social media, and databases;
  • InDesign, Adobe and Photoshop are assets.


Located in the Girls Action Foundation office in Montreal, this is an 8-week contract. Salary: $15 per hour for a full-time position (30 hours / week).


The deadline to apply is May 23, 2018. The start date is June 6th. The interviews will take place from May 28th to 31st.
