Chaque fille a le droit de pouvoir tracer le parcours de vie qu’elle désire, ce qui inclut des études satisfaisantes, un emploi épanouissant et une stabilité économique. Pourtant, les filles ne sont toujours pas sur un pied d’égalité avec les garçons. De nombreuses filles se heurtent à des obstacles importants, dont la violence et les problèmes de santé physique et mentale, tels que l’anxiété et la faible estime de soi. Ces obstacles posent des défis de taille en ce qui a trait aux perspectives d’éducation et d’emploi.
 
Dans ce webinaire, la Fondation filles d’action partage dans un premier temps les résultats et réflexions de ses recherches sur les obstacles à l’autodétermination des filles, puis dans un deuxième temps, son expérience et ses pratiques concrètes relatives à l’organisation d’une journée des métiers pour filles.

Thinking of entrepreneurs as purely profit-loving beings has kept many educators at bay from introducing entrepreneurship as a viable professional path to youth. Furthermore, it is difficult for the general public to think of local and, even less so, female entrepreneurs who could serve as models for young girls and boys. Studies have shown that women tend to start businesses and develop their own projects less than men do and, often, later than men do. The average age of a woman starting her own business is between 34 and 44 whereas male business owners retire at 47. Taking into consideration all these factors, several Carrefour jeunesse-emploi in Montreal came together with the goal of reaching young girls in order to highlight that entrepreneurship is not just for boys and about making money. It is about knowing what ignites you and pushes you forward so that you have a positive impact on your life and on the world around you. Glambition, from the words glamand ambition, is a day dedicated to showcasing a diversity of entrepreneurial women and their stories of perseverance, self-confidence and collaboration, proving that ambition is glamorous, even though it is not all about popularity and money.

The Latin American/Latinx Feminisms course creates a space for Latinx cis and trans women and non-binary folks to learn about their herstories and discuss experiences at the intersections of systems of oppression related to facets of identity such as race, class, gender, and sexual orientation. It also serves as a "training" for MUJER volunteers, staff, and Board, where we learn and reflect on Latinx womyn traditions of feminisms, what feminism means to us, and how this can inform our feminist organizing through community building. In this webinar, Carolina Rios will give us an introduction to this unique course on Latinx Feminisms.

In this webinar, Kim Melnyk (Case Manager) and Karen Wilson (Youth Therapist) from the Laurel Center will speak about their experience running 2 therapeutic groups for women ages 16-24. The groups focused on the dynamics of healthy relationships, parenting relationships and healthy attachments. The presenters will discuss the participants’ experiences and responses to addressing the many barriers encountered in their lives.

In this presentation, Zeeta from the Black Community Resource Center of Montreal (BCRC) will share with us how to get different stakeholders from the community involved in a girls’ program. Based on the latest BCRC project, part of the Taking Hold program, where girls created an artistic project with the support of their community’s teachers, organizations, artists, and an advisory community, Zeeta will share tools and promising practices from this project!

We need media created by racialized girls that celebrates the complexity of their lives, their magic, their brilliance. Together we explored the ways racialized girls are already creating media from Vines, Tumblr to dance and poetry to posters that challenge school clothing policies. Throughout the webinar, Farrah shared media production strategies used by girls, community organizations and grassroots movements to create dialogue and explore issues in their lives from an anti-racist, feminist approach. Join her to explore media that heals, builds self-love and gives radical hope with racialized young girls.

With discussing LGBTTQQIA issues with newcomer youth, challenges can be increased with having to juggle a range of diverse life experiences, faiths, cultural backgrounds, and more. In this webinar, we will discuss why anti-homophobia education and working with newcomer youth communities go hand-in-hand, aim to equip participants with strategies to provide safe spaces for youth to talk about sexual and reproductive health and strategies to engage in sex-positive, youth-positive and identity-affirming conversations with your youth, with a focus on young women and girls.

In this webinar, Cassandra will be discussing Indigenous health and education gaps in Canada, the role the policymaking system plays in perpetuating such gaps, as well as how we can utilize Indigenous knowledge to address these gaps and revise the policymaking system itself. This webinar will take a look at the conditions specific to girls and boys that impact their school attendance. We begin with a brief portrait of the current situation in Québec, and why we should be concerned with girls dropping out of school. We then explore reasons why youth drop out and what can be done, with a specific focus on risk factors during the transition to high school. Through the presentation of a new YWCA toolkit, Milena argues that the transition from grade school to high school is an opportune time to intervene in preventing dropouts, with programming that reinforces self-esteem and social skills, favors the development of a critical awareness of gender stereotypes, and encourages the ability to recognize, counter and prevent violence.

Joanne will answer these questions and speak about the issues you may face when making a career in the non-profit sector. She will mostly speak of the structural issues, such as the difficulties in retaining young talented people, volatile funding situations, barriers to policy advocacy, etc. She will draw from her experience as a Canadian feminist organizer to look at how young Canadian feminists might be thinking about new ways to make change (i.e. through informal networks rather than structured organizations, ad-hoc projects, social media, etc.).
