Immigration in the Long Run: The Education and Earnings Mobility of Second-Generation Canadians
This study informs discussion on second-generation immigrant equality by focusing on the education and labour market outcomes of the children of immigrants. These dimensions relate directly to the concerns expressed in the newspaper editorial referred to above — namely, the values that lead to social integration, and the education system as the main instrument in promoting them, but also the opportunities that are based on a labour market that, in a sense, is a level playing field on which newcomers and their children can succeed on the basis of their aspirations and talents.
