"According to research by the Girls' Action Foundation, teenage girls are three times as likely as boys to suffer from depression, 29 per cent of aboriginal girls in British Columbia say they have considered suicide and one in three girls reports being pressured into a sexual act against her will. It's essential to create girls-only spaces where they feel safe, said Tatiana Fraser, executive director of the foundation, a national network that connects over 200 girls' programs, and convener of tonight's Girls' groups join forces to light sparks at conference. "Girls often feel isolated and alone. Whether it be an issue of body image or an issue of dating or an issue of peers and friends. When they find out they're not alone, that is very transformative."
